Our Mission for Earth Month

This Earth Month at Browzwear, we underscore the significance of sustainability within the fashion industry. In our commitment to environmental consciousness, we recognize the urgent need to revolutionize conventional garment production methods. Our vision encompasses not only reducing waste but also redefining the entire product lifecycle. By advocating for the adoption of digital samples, we pave the way forward. This transformative shift not only minimizes environmental impact but also streamlines production processes, presenting an unparalleled opportunity to enhance efficiency while safeguarding our planet for generations to come.

The Urgent Need for Sustainable Practices

The fashion industry is responsible for approximately 10% of worldwide carbon emissions and consumes more energy than both the aviation and shipping industries combined. Additionally, a staggering 92 million tons of clothing end up in landfills each year. There's a growing call within the industry for legislation requiring sustainable practices in apparel organizations. According to last year’s Fashion Transparency Index, “88% of major fashion brands still do not disclose their annual production volumes, obscuring the scale and truth of overproduction. 99% of brands do not disclose a commitment to reduce the number of new items they produce.”

Adhering to sustainability regulations not only mitigates legal risks but also signals a commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility, crucial for fostering long-term consumer loyalty. The shift towards sustainability faces challenges in translating words into concrete actions, as noted in McKinsey & Co's State of Fashion 2023 report. While some progress is evident in the industry, the pace of change falls short of what's necessary to meet upcoming regulatory requirements.

Technology as a Solution: Browzwear's Vision

In response to fashion industry challenges, 3D design software offers a sustainable alternative, cutting waste and speeding up development. It also enhances communication, reducing the need for physical meetings and shipments, fostering innovation and efficiency.

Driving Change with Closed Loop Partners

Our collaboration with Closed Loop Partners underscores our dedication to sustainability. Closed Loop Partners shares our vision of a more circular, less wasteful fashion industry and is actively working with us to develop a sustainability calculator. This innovative tool empowers brands to assess and minimize their environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle, from raw material sourcing to manufacturing and distribution. By providing brands with actionable insights, the sustainability calculator enables informed decision-making that prioritizes sustainability.

"Our team worked closely with Browzwear to develop an impact model that measures materials kept in circulation, greenhouse gas emissions reduction, and water savings across business operations. In doing so, we not only developed a reporting tool––for us as investors and for Browzwear’s customers––but also created a baseline for the fashion industry to measure the economic and environmental impact benefits of adopting 3D design tools for sampling, product development, merchandising, and beyond.”

*Assumptions for 2023 Data Interpretation:

Data reliability is based on the Closed Loop Browzwear Impact model, which assumes:
Sample Reduction: On average, four physical samples are saved for each digital sample produced. Showroom Utilization: Around 30% of digital samples are expected to be used in showrooms, reducing the need for traditional salesman samples.

The Impact Model uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches to measure decreases in physical samples, salesman samples, packaging, and transportation. This reduction ultimately leads to fewer physical samples throughout the product lifecycle,  lower greenhouse emissions, decreased water consumption, and less waste in landfills. Additionally, it evaluates qualitative enhancements made possible by 3D technology.

Utilizing data collected from all the BW files generated in a one-year timeframe, the model concentrates on several crucial areas for measurement:

  • Decrease in the number of physical samples produced (quantitative).
  • Reduction in physical salesman samples displayed in showrooms (quantitative).
  • Decrease in packaging used for shipping physical samples (quantitative).
  • Reduction in transportation needed to ship samples between designers and manufacturers (quantitative).
  • Implementation of 3D digital samples to replace physical ones in showrooms, eCommerce, and digital marketing (qualitative).
  • Utilization of 3D digital products to facilitate fit recommendations, leading to a decrease in online returns (qualitative).

Strategic Partnerships for Sustainability

In our commitment to sustainability, we have forged strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations such as Trapdoor Creative. Together, we're redefining the fashion supply chain by enabling real-time collaboration between designers and manufacturers, regardless of geographical boundaries. This collaborative platform not only accelerates the design process but also eliminates the need for shipping physical samples back and forth, thereby reducing emissions associated with logistics.

"3D technology plays a huge part in the sustainability of the fashion industry.  At Trapdoor Creative, we built our Stage rendering and visualization platform to enable brands to drastically reduce the need for physical samples by visualizing their 3D designs in a fully interactive and accurate digital environment. Stage makes this a natural and simple, yet powerful visual experience, letting users explore details in materials, lighting changes, angles and more just as they would do with a physical sample, but with incredible visual fidelity and realism. This experience allows for faster decision-making, quicker iteration and exploration, and ultimately, the reduction of physical samples needed to finalize a product.  Stage was built to simplify and accelerate the true-to-life visualization process, affecting all downstream processes, and allowing for even greater sustainability."

Embracing Sustainable Fashion

As we celebrate Earth Month 2024, Browzwear reaffirms its commitment to driving positive change within the fashion industry. Through innovation, collaboration, and technology, we are paving the way towards a more sustainable future. Let us seize this opportunity to embrace sustainability and create a fashion industry that not only inspires but also preserves our planet for generations to come.
